OHS on a Balboa hot tub: spa water too hot
The spa water itself has reached about 110°F and the spa has shut down. Do not get in until the water cools below 104°F.
Also shown as: OH S, spa overheat
Most likely causes
- 1Filter cycles too long in hot weathermost likely
- 2Hot outdoor temperatures with the cover closedcommon
- 3Circulation pump or jet pump stuck runningless common
- 4Faulty temperature sensor reading highless common
What to try, in order
- Stay out of the water and remove the cover so heat can escape.
- Wait for the water to drop to about 107°F, then press any button to reset the panel.
- Check the real water temperature with a floating thermometer to see if the panel reading is accurate.
- Reduce the filter cycle length and move it to the cooler part of the night.
- If a pump keeps running when it should be off, switch the tub off at the breaker and call for service.
OHS questions
What is the difference between OH and OHS on a Balboa?
OH (or OHH) means the heater area hit about 118°F. OHS means the spa water itself hit about 110°F. Both shut the spa down until it cools.
Can I add cold water to clear OHS faster?
Yes. Taking the cover off and adding some cold water from a hose is a safe way to bring the temperature down. Retest your water balance afterward.
