TOO COLD on a Balboa hot tub: freeze protection active

A possible freezing condition was detected, so all pumps and the blower turn on to protect the plumbing. This is normal protection and not a fault in itself.

Most likely causes

  1. 1Freezing outdoor temperaturesmost likely
  2. 2Tub is not heating because of another faultcommon
  3. 3Auxiliary freeze sensor triggeredless common

What to try, in order

  1. Leave the power on and the cover closed.
  2. Check whether the tub is heating. Look for another message such as HTR FLOW FAIL or HTR DRY.
  3. If the water keeps getting colder, fix the heating fault quickly.
  4. In severe cold with a tub that will not heat, place a safe heat source in the equipment bay until it is repaired.

TOO COLD questions

Why did all my pumps turn on in the middle of the night?

Freeze protection. The pumps run for at least 4 minutes after the sensors stop reading a freeze condition.

Should I turn the tub off in freezing weather?

No. A powered, heated tub protects itself. A tub that is off and full of water can freeze and crack its plumbing.
