NO COMM on a Balboa hot tub: panel communication error
The topside panel is not receiving data from the control system. It can appear for a moment at power-up, which is normal. If it stays, the panel, cable, or board has a problem.
Also shown as: Communications error, No communication, NO COMMS
Most likely causes
- 1Normal brief message during startupmost likely
- 2Loose or wet panel cable connectioncommon
- 3Failed topside panelcommon
- 4Circuit board faultless common
What to try, in order
- Wait a minute after power-up to see if the message clears by itself.
- Turn the tub off at the breaker for 30 seconds, then back on.
- Check whether the tub is still heating and filtering. If so, the board is working and the panel or cable is the likely fault.
- Note the panel model (printed on the back or on the overlay) and the pack model before ordering parts.
NO COMM questions
Can I use the hot tub with NO COMM on the screen?
The tub may keep filtering and heating to its last settings, but you cannot control it. Check the temperature with a thermometer before getting in.
Does NO COMM mean I need a new circuit board?
Not usually. Topside panels and their cables fail more often than boards, especially when water gets under the overlay.
