Hot tub plumbing parts

Most hot tub leaks are fixed with a small plumbing part: a union o-ring, a slice valve, a check valve, or a diverter valve. Spa plumbing is sized by the pipe, usually 1.5 or 2 inch, so measure the pipe's outside diameter before ordering. A 1.5 inch pipe measures about 1.9 inches across and a 2 inch pipe measures about 2-3/8 inches.

How do I measure hot tub pipe size?

Measure the outside diameter of the pipe itself. About 1.9 inches is 1.5 inch pipe, and about 2-3/8 inches is 2 inch pipe.

Why does my pump union leak?

Usually a flattened or missing o-ring, or a nut that has loosened with heat cycles. Replace the o-ring and hand-tighten. Do not use a wrench with force.

What does a check valve do in a hot tub?

It lets water or air flow one way only. Check valves protect the ozonator and blower from water and keep water from flowing backward between pumps.
